“There are a lot of emotions felt when revolving around death. However, there's a complex reality of being the one with a beating heart.”

Heavy Emotions

“Heavy Emotions” was a piece created using acrylic paint displayed on a piece of foam board rather than a typical canvas. This painting presents the main subject, a realistic anatomical heart with white lilies lying underneath dripping in the blood. To the heart's left side, is a rib cage painted in black with white and pink highlights. To the right of the composition are arrows soaring through space with white and blue strokes guiding them towards the heart. The background is a simple purple and blue gradient to show both a sense of cohesiveness and chaos. This piece was one of the first paintings I’ve ever created and been proud of. I took the time and research to truly describe my internal battle of emotions. When constructing the painting I intended to explore photorealism, abstraction, and artist intuition.

During the time this painting was created, I was dealing with the death of a loved one. I coped with suppressed emotions, and yet, all I could think about were the other people in my life who were hurting. It felt like I was stabbed. It made my chest feel as if it were about to burst, therefore, I wanted to convey that feeling in my piece. My best work comes out when I express my feelings at the moment of creation.

Pain, love, innocence, and silence were the main emotions I felt very passionate about. They carry a lot of burden within you, especially when you're perceiving how others feel. There are a lot of emotions felt when revolving around death. However, there's a complex reality of being the one with a beating heart.
